Oak & Keep began with a question that became harder to ignore: how much of a family’s important information lives only in one person’s head?

The idea was influenced in part by watching an older generation manage years of household records, family information, and responsibilities that were not always easy for someone else to locate or understand. Much of it existed. Very little of it was written down in one place.

Becoming a mother made the question feel more immediate. As the person carrying much of the day-to-day knowledge for a household, I began thinking about what someone I trusted would need to know if I were temporarily unable to explain it myself. Where would they find important medical information? Who would they call? What bills, policies, accounts, routines, and records would they need to understand?

Oak & Keep was created to provide a clear place to begin — not because families should live in fear of the unexpected, but because thoughtful preparation is one way we care for the people who depend on us.

Household information is rarely lost — it is scattered. Some of it sits in a filing cabinet, some in an email account, some in an online portal, some on a phone, and a surprising amount in one person’s memory.

That works until someone else needs it. A partner, an adult child, a sibling, or a trusted friend can be left searching through drawers and logins for information that technically already exists. A written reference does not remove that difficulty entirely, but it gives the right person a place to start.

The oak stands for strength, shelter, continuity, and the things built to last. “Keep” reflects both the act of organizing and the desire to protect what matters.
